concentration

My concentration is an exploration of surrealism with animals. I want to focus on a juxtaposition of two regular things that creates a new perspective on the objects. The original french surrealists had many methods of tapping into the subconscious to create works of art. These methods are the inspirations for my art work. My art work shed a new light on everyday things, and they force the viewer to think about things from a new perspective.

this is a very raw first take on a concentration statment. tell me if you have anyways to make it better? or any ideas of art that might fit into my concetration

Last night I had this terrible school nightmare, where i forgot i was taking a class i was enrolled in and i ended up failing it and not getting accepted into any colleges. And then today when i was making a sketchbook i had this horrible thought that i can't remember the last time i used one of those sticker prompts. so now on top of the insane school night mare i have the real one of getting half credit for who knows how many sketchbooks. great.

but in better news i found this great how to book in borders about accessing your imagination in drawings and I used one of its ideas for my sketch book. The idea is to look at something with random organic shapes (clouds etc) and then drawing what you see in the shapes. I did a sketch book off the water stains/ mold growing on my bathroom ceiling. I used gray pastel for the stain part and then clarified it using a pencil. (this counts as observational too right?)I thought it was a fun idea. I'm trying to get my brother to actually buy the book for me so i can use more of the quirky ideas, they were really fun.

self actualization

In psychology class prov is teaching us about self actualization, and reaching ones true potential. He gave us a survey that had all these strange questions like
do you see pictures in the clouds?
do you ever just sit around and look at every day things that you find beautiful?
do you spend time contemplating the world around you in abstract ways?

What I got out of it is that artsy kids must be more self actualized then every one else, well artists and drug addicts.

so as i was was searching for artists that inspire me i was asking around to get inspired. My mom suggested Georgia O'keefe. she is probably the most inspiring thing ive seen all month. this little old lady quit reality and moved into a little hut. There she spent the last 20 years of her life creating amazing vibrant and above all youthful paintings. They were mostly close ups of flowers, but depicted in a very sensual way. Personally i loved hearing that its never too late to do what you love, and even though i may nto end up doing art as a carreer i can always run off when im nice and old :)

rant

Today I am feeling a little pissed off at all the softmore girls who got way to drunk and had to go to the hospital form the dance. I know this isnt about aret but it really bothers me that people at our school would let themselves get that bad. Throwing up at the school is not ok in my book. I have heard that the next couple dances may end up being lights on. If my senior prom is lights on because some teensy little girls couldnt control themselves i will not be happy
sorry for ranting mrs.mcbride.
GO ART

this is probably my favorite song I've ever heard

Little yellow spider laughing at the snow
Well maybe that spider knows something that I don't know
Cuz I'm goddamn cold

Little white monkey staring at the sand
Maybe that monkey figured out something I couldn't understand
Who knows

Well I came upon a dancing crab and I stopped to watch it shake, I said,
'Dance for me just one more time before ya hibernate,
and ya come out a crab cake'

And hey there little snapping turtle, snapping at a shell
Oh there's mysteries inside I know
But what they are I just can't tell for sure

And hey there little baby crow, you're looking kind of mean
I think I oughta split before ya start letting off your steam
For sure

And hey there little sexy pig, you mated with a man
And now you've got a little kid
With hooves instead of hands

And oh all of the animals, all of the animals

And hey there little mockingbird, they sing about you in songs
'Oh where ya been? Have ya broke a wing?'
I haven't heard ya in so long

And hey there little albatross, swimming in the air
'Aw, come on you know I can't fly and I
Think we really oughta play fair'

And hey there mister happy squid, you move so psychedelically
You hypnotize with your magic dance all the animals in the sea
For sure

And oh all of the animals, all the animals

And hey there Mr. Morning Sun, what kind of creature are you
I can't stare, but I know you're there
Goddamn, how I wish I knew

And hey there Mrs. Lovely Moon, you're lonely and you're blue
It's kind of strange the way you change
But then again we all do, too.

I have been trying to get alot of input for my Jesse Reno. The same comments keep popping up:
What is it?
What is it supposed to be?

At first this made me angry because art isn't supposed to be anything, it should be exactly what it is to the viewer, even if this isn't what the creator intended. I think people like to have a basis from which they judge art. They like to have a image to can compare the piece with, and from which to judge. I want to make art like we did when we were kids. Make art and call it whatever we want. That big scribble, no that's not a flower- its mommy. And if the viewer doesn't understand what it is, maybe they will get a feeling instead or an impression of something outside their everyday thoughts. I just want more freedom to make art for myself. To challenge people to think outside their box.
